Old versus Old

Throughout life there has always discussions of when is old old. What age is old? At what age is old enough to have a driver's license?  How old do you have to be when married? When a person dies were they too young or too old? What is the proper age to be to die?  Face it. There is no proper age in life and nothing in life determines how old you should be in order to do what life asks of you. Of course, you can live by a calendar that indicates an age that you should be able to function in society, but which calendar do you live by? Lunar, solar, Gregorian, Julian, Chinese, Indian, Mayan, the list can go on and so can this babble. Who hasn't heard 'you're not old enough to understand'? There was once an age limit on rides in amusement parks. After years of trying to guess an age and parents lying by saying there old enough for the rides on amusement parks are now by 'you have to be this high' to ride the 'curly Q sooper dooper looper'. When you're twelve years old or younger and grandparents die at an age above seventy you think that's old. However, should you live to be above seventy years of age it's not so old. Being at seventy years old and looking at who is dying at the same age you wonder. Hell I'm at the same age but that doesn't mean I'm old and should be dead, also. Old really doesn't have any relation to dying. You can be any age to die. What is funny is the remarks made about someone who has died: I didn't think he was that old. He looked older than that. I thought the old coot died years ago. etc...How old his his widow? How old are the children? How old were they when they got married? The most torturous year of not old enough is fifteen when, in most areas, sixteen is the legal age to drive. The year you're fifteen still has only 365 days, but in your mind it is much longer and the days go by as fast as a turtle trying to cross a highway. Once you attain the age of sixteen and have your driver's license there is a few years of rest and relaxation. When you become twenty years old a new age is over the horizon. The age of legal drinking and being old enough to act like an adult which most of us fail to behave like we are old enough to know better, but why worry we'll be old someday and maybe too old to misbehave after all it's only the old ones that die. Then along comes the age of being thirty, now, you're getting old too old to be trusted by anyone under thirty and you now realize you are becoming too old to drink all night and go to work without sleep and the old fuddy duddies really get on your shit for not working and for not doing the good job you used to do. Now, you are wishing that old dick of a boss would retire. You're too old to take his shit and you don't realize that you are just being an ass an older ass and that dick boss is just trying to get you back up to snuff because getting older doesn't make life easier to live. Holy Shit! You're now in the forty years of age category and your life has not gone the way it was supposed to go when you got to be this old. You have an epiphany. I'm getting older and nothing to show for it. You have yet to attain the wealthy status you were working for and you now realize you're getting old maybe too old to get rich and start to think that you're too old to attain the dreams you once had before you became too old to fulfill your dreams. Jump ahead to sixty-five or the age you are allowed to legally retire on Social Security and now you're looking back to the day you got your driver's license, and when you became twenty-one society determined with the use of a calendar you were old enough to be an adult. You start thinking what is left for old people to do. Old people make young people miserable because old people don't understand young people and what they are going through. They're too old to know young people's problems. after all it's the old people who caused the young people's problems, like being told they're not old enough for a certain job, or they have to be older to attain a position in a business, or they are acting stupid getting piercings and tattoos are not socially acceptable as they get older, but who cares when they get older things will be changed not realizing that thinking pertains to old age. When you get into the old age of the seventies and look back you have an epiphany when dwelling on what you had done in the age of youth and you realize how stupid your behaviour was and there is now no way to communicate the experience to the young because you have the wisdom of the ancients in their seventies you didn't heed advice especially from the ones you thought too old to know and now, also, being seventy plus it is hard to have a conversation with twenty years old people. The expressions on their face are like the deer in the headlights of an oncoming vehicle. How I envy teachers and professors who have to fill those heads with knowledge...Everything old is new again...
